Georgia Gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams found herself in news headlines all over the country again this week after making the absurd claim that the cure for America’s rapid inflation lies in women’s access to abortion.
As Americans have shown that they are more concerned with inflation than the abortion argument heading into the 2022 midterm election, Abrams has found a way to conflate the two topics in an insane attempt to win the governorship of Georgia after she lost to Brian Kemp in 2018.
According to Abrams, inflation wouldn’t be an issue if women didn’t have children. She claims that for Georgians, the real issue with inflation is the existence of their children whom they must pay to feed and buy clothes.
“Having children is why you’re worried about your price for gas… how much food costs,” said Abrams in an appearance on MSNBC’s show “Morning Joe”.
What an out-of-touch sentiment from someone who clearly does not understand the massive value that comes with starting a family.
Considering pregnancy only as an economic matter is central to the disdain that many Americans feel against the current Democratic Party.
To take a discussion on the value of life and simply boil it down to dollars on a balance sheet is an example of why Abrams is not currently the sitting Governor of Georgia.
“For women, this is not a reproductive issue,” said Abrams.
“You can’t divorce being forced to carry out an unwanted pregnancy from the economic realities of having a child.”
I am certain that many families would strongly disagree with this sentiment, as assigning a dollar amount to the worth of their children would be impossible and unthinkable for most, or, as I would argue, all, good parents.
“Women – half the population – especially those of childbearing age, they understand that having a child is absolutely an economic issue,” Abrams continued to rant.
“It is only politicians who see it as simply another cultural conversation. It is a real biological and economic imperative conversation that women need to have.”
“Right now we are walking away so often from the real issues that people care about. Abortion is an economic issue. It’s been reduced to this idea of a culture war,” she continued.
“For women in Georgia, this is very much a question of whether they’re going to end up in poverty in the next five years because women who are forced to carry to unwanted pregnancies end up in poverty.”
Many pundits and politicians have voiced their disgust over these words from Abrams.
Sen. Ted Cruz called this rhetoric “despicable” and said that he “can’t believe this needs to be said, but ending a human life is not the solution for inflation.”
“This is the Democratic Party,” says Rep. Andy Biggs. “Demonic.”
National Review writer Dan McLaughlin summed the issue up quite well by saying “I didn’t really expect Democrats to go with, ‘you know, it’s cheaper to feed your family if you kill a few of them’ as a closing argument, yet here were are.”
