Voting for the GOP can be painful, well, generally is quite painful, because they rarely wield power once they get it. After being voted into office, Republicans starting with Eisenhower have refused to demolish the vast, far-left administrative state the Democrats have built up and instead just fiddle around with tax cuts and boosting military spending while the country drifts to the left.
Their doing so was particularly egregious in 2016-18, when they held the presidency and both houses of the legislature yet refused to do anything with it other than a tax cut that mainly helped the mostly woke corporations.
But, in what’s probably shocking or startling news, it’s looking increasingly likely that the GOP might actually do something about the Hunter Biden problem if they retake power.
Such is what Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, the guy who will likely become chairman of the House oversight panel if the GOP retakes power in the House this November, hinted at during an interview with Time Magazine, saying that the GOP has been hard at work digging up evidence of what Hunter has done. In his words:
“We’re not investigating Hunter Biden for political reasons. We’re investigating Hunter Biden because we believe he’s a national security threat, who we fear has compromised Joe Biden. The Hunter Biden investigation is slowly becoming the Joe Biden investigation.”
He said much the same thing when speaking to reporters at the Capitol, saying:
“The reason we’re investigating Hunter Biden is because we believe he’s compromised Joe Biden.”
“We’ve already brought forth more evidence of wrongdoing with Hunter Biden in foreign countries than Adam Schiff ever brought forward with Donald Trump or Jared Kushner or anyone else.”
Other Republicans recognize the necessity of investigating Hunter Biden as well. Rep. Matt Gaetz, for example, recently noted that the average GOP voter will feel betrayed if the GOP doesn’t hold Hunter accountable, saying:
“If we don’t engage in impeachment inquiries to get the documents and the testimony and the information that we need, then I believe that our voters will feel betrayed. That’s why it should be investigations first, and policy, bill-making to support the lobbyists and the PACs as a far, far diminished priority.”
But, of course, there’s still pushback. Democrat Rep. Carolyn Maloney of New York, for example, pushed back on Rep. Comer’s plans for a Hunter Biden investigation, saying, when speaking to Time Magazine:
“Rather than join Democrats in making progress for the American people, Republicans are promoting a so-called investigative agenda that appears to be aimed at riling up their base and rehashing tired talking points from Donald Trump’s failed 2020 campaign.”
Time also reported that Joe has not commented on these newest threats of investigation specifically, but has said that Hunter’s activities didn’t affect his politics, saying:
The White House declined to comment for this story. President Biden recently told 60 Minutes that his son’s troubles had not influenced his policies in any way. “I love my son, number one. He fought an addiction problem, he overcame it, he wrote about it,” Biden said. “There’s not a single thing that I’ve observed at all that would affect me or the United States, relative to my son Hunter.”
We’ll see what the GOP actually does. It has certainly let us down before. But, perhaps it has finally learned its lesson and is willing to push back on the left by dragging in Hunter Biden for an investigation.
