BOX OFFICE BLUES: September Was Bad for Tinseltown. Here Are The Latest Woke Bombs

Will Hollywood ever learn? The studios continue to churn out stultifying dreck, woke fantasies, yet they claim surprise when these films tank in the box office. September 2022, is no exception to the trend, save for one in that it is the worst September for box office receipts in twenty-five years, putting the crossover summer-to-fall month at the best of the worst. We have to go all the way back to 1997 to see ticket sales this awful, and that year boasted box office and critical gems such as ‘L.A. Confidential,’ ‘The Full Monty,’ and ‘The Game.’

As go-for-broke lefty mag TheWrap reports, “With just $275 million grossed in North America to date, this will be the first September since 1997 with a monthly total of less than $350 million. To date, the running total for September 2022 is 20% behind last year’s pace and 52% behind the pace set this month in 2019.” September 2020 was not included in the tally due to the anti-constitutional coronavirus shutdowns which shut just about everything down, including movie theaters.

As Breitbart’s John Nolte reports, last year’s getting-back-into-the-swing-of-things post-Covid was even better than this year, with theaters grossing $367 million. And September 2001, the month of the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania, boasted better box office receipts than this September.

How on earth could this be? Why oh why aren’t people going to the movies, especially when there have been so many options on the big screen? Around 40 feature films were released in September, a quarter of them in wide release. So the argument Hollywood posits there just aren’t enough movies to go around is simply bunk.

The real reason for a bum box office appears to be in the subject matter of the movies themselves. Nolte gives the example of anti-Christianity comedy (comedy!?) called ‘Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul,” which was in medium release in 1,880 theaters, yet only grossed $2.56 million, a certified bomb. It is unclear who the intended audience was for a comedy of this sort, especially since comedies have traditionally been about attracting everyone, finding commonality in laughter.

An example of a bigger September 2022 bomb is ‘The Woman King,’ the Viola Davis over-the-top woke vehicle that is on the surface ‘Black Panther’ doused in feminist tropes, but according to Nolte, in reality is a look-at-how-bad-white-people are flick. The film is in a staggering 3,765 theaters and has made a paltry $37 million. Part of the reason why audiences have stayed away in droves is that the story is predicated on a falsehood in that the tribe of women warriors/liberators depicted in the movie didn’t exist, and the African people they claim to represent actually enslaved those whom they conquered or sold them into slavery, even going as far as using the slaves as human sacrifices.

But an even bigger bomb which opened in even more theaters than ‘Woman King’ is Olivia Wilde’s ‘Don’t Worry Darling,’ featuring in 4,113 theaters yet grossing…are you ready?… $21 million over five days. LOL! This mystery-thriller was marketed as anti-man, an attack on the patriarchy and toxic masculinity, and audiences took notice and stayed away, preferring not to be lectured to by Tinseltown’s elite using their woke value system.

There continues to be a bright spot, however, much to Hollywood’s chagrin, as Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick, the non-woke, pro- American, masculine fun fest, blew the summer out of the water; without it, the entire season would have been a dog-bomb disaster for an industry that’s struggling to stay relevant.
