US Customs captures millions in cocaine disguised as baby wipes

More than 1,500 pounds of cocaine was discovered by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, hidden in a place where anyone would least expect it, a shipment of baby wipes. That’s so much that you might laugh out loud and think of Rick James from the Dave Chappelle skit!

According to the agency in a news release, the narcotics seizure occurred at the Laredo-Colombia Solidarity International Bridge. A tractor-trailer bringing in a shipment of baby wipes was stopped for a secondary inspection by a CBP officer at the Laredo-Colombia Solidarity Bridge, officials say.

Here is where the drug-sniffing dogs made their spotlight, as they made the discovery of what CBP described as 1,935 packages of cocaine totaling 1,532 pounds. More than $11.8 million is the estimated street value of the seized cocaine totaled, the agency says, according to reports.

The port director for the Laredo Port of Entry, Alberto Flores, said in a news release that “officers assigned to CBP cargo facilities ensure effective border security by preventing and countering the flow of suspected narcotics entering the country.”

“This seizure is a prime example of border security management and how it helps prevent dangerous narcotics from reaching our communities,” added Flores.

According to the release, special agents are investigating the seizure, as per the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations. These smugglers really thought that no one would ever suspect that there is more than 1500 pounds of cocaine hidden in baby wipes. Maybe on paper, it seemed like a great idea, but the drug-sniffing dogs had the last word… or in this case, the last bark.
