California Governor Gavin Newsom just launched a new, billboard-centric ad campaign across conservative, anti-abortion states. Predictably, the billboards are all attempts to defend and push abortion on red staters who have no interest in such things. They mainly do so by highlighting that California is a place women can go to to get an abortion if their state has banned doing so.
Posting about the billboards on Twitter, Newsom first said “NEW: Just launched billboards in 7 of the most restrictive anti-abortion states that explain how women can access care–no matter where they live.
To any woman seeking an abortion in these anti-freedom states: CA will defend your right to make decisions about your own health.”
He then went on to share images of the billboards. Here those are:

Well, conservative Americans were quite upset by the pro-abortion billboards, calling them everything from “Satanic” to “abominable”. Those criticizing the billboards were particularly upset by Newsom’s use of scripture to push abortion on the billboard going up in Mississippi, with that billboard drawing some of the harshest comments. Here are some of those comments:
“‘Good Catholic” @GavinNewsom is now using Bible scriptures to encourage women to come to California to abort their babies. A truly shameful display. Meanwhile, in CA crime continues to skyrocket, the cost of living is out of control, and the state can’t even keep the lights on.”
“ABOMINABLE for a US Governor to quote Holy Scripture to promote MURDER of the most vulnerable in what should be their SAFEST SPACE ~ Mother’s Womb!! Gov Newsom, you are at war w GOD ~ read Proverbs 6:16-17”
“This is satanic.”
“@GavinNewsom is an enemy of God. Repent and believe in the Gospel.”
“The governor of California quotes Scripture to support abortion. This is some of the most blatant defiance of a holy God…”
“Come to California, we celebrate Molech!”
“Unbelievable! Isn’t killing your closest neighbor the exact opposite of the verse he cites from Jesus about loving your neighbor as yourself?”
“My dear CA friends, I would start building an ark. Abortion is wrong but misusing His Word is worse.”
“And if u really loved ur neighbor, u wouldn’t be helping them kill their child…”
“I’m really kind of speechless on this. Don’t know that I’ve seen the word of God so twisted and perverted to support a position, especially abortion. Sadly, people are applauding and celebrating this. Mr. Newsom needs some serious help and guidance.”
As a side note, while Newsom was highlighting his attempts to push abortion on red states, President Joe Biden, another supposed “good Catholic,” was doing so as well, pledging on Twitter to codify Roe v. Wade if Democrats win the midterms and take over the Senate. In his words:
If you give me two more Democratic senators, and Democrats keep the House, I promise you we will codify Roe v. Wade.
We will once again make Roe the law of the land.
We will once again protect a woman’s right to choose.
