Ryan Reynolds seems like a great guy. He never spouts off about politics, never gets in trouble, is always funny and charming in interviews and media. Just seems like a dude you could crack a Molson with. He’s Canadian, otherwise I’d never drink a Molson.
Reynolds is also an entrepreneur, as he owns his own mobile phone company, Mint Mobile, a low-cost provider that’s an alternative to the big companies. He also famously purchased a Football Club in North Wales named Wrexham with buddy Rob McElhenney from “Always Sunny in Philadelphia” fame, also a very likeable, relatable dude. They turned the purchase of Wrexham into a documentary show on the “FX” network. I have yet to see it, but it is high on my fall/winter watch list.
Want to know what is NOT on my watch list? Recently Reynolds and McElhenny had a unique bonding experience to draw attention to a good cause. They both had colonoscopies and had them filmed for “posterity”. Since both men are 45, and that is about the age where men need to be getting examined, they decided filming would be a good way to de-stigmatize the procedure. What happened next rear ended them both. Check this out from Page Six:
The “Deadpool” actor, 45, and his Wrexham soccer club co-chairman, Rob McElhenney, decided to partner up with Lead From Behind, a colon cancer awareness organization, to encourage people — especially men — to get the procedure when the time comes.
Reynolds discovered he had a “subtle polyp” on his colon during his first colonoscopy.

Ouch! I don’t know what a “subtle” polyp is, but there’s nothing subtle about having the procedure filmed. At least that’s what the two hope, in order to coerce more men into the potentially lifesaving procedure.
I would never normally have any medical procedure put on camera and then shared,” Reynolds said.
“But it’s not every day that you can raise awareness about something that will most definitely save lives. That’s enough motivation for me to let you in on a camera being shoved up my a**.”
Interesting strategy to say the least. It’s a touchy subject for most men, literally and figuratively, but a necessary one. Having two relatable, likable guys like Reynolds and McElhenny “pierce the veil” so to speak, and unmask some of the anxiety we all feel about it, myself included, is only a good thing. That doesn’t mean I am going to run right out and make an appointment, but it’s food for thought, considering both men had potential issues. As for Reynolds “subtle polyp”, doctors removed it and gave him some shocking feedback.
“This was potentially life-saving for you — I’m not kidding, I’m not being overly dramatic,” the doctor told the actor as he showed off images of the tissue. “This is exactly why you do this. You had no symptoms.”
As for McElhenney, his doctor revealed they found three polyps that “were not a big deal, but certainly a good thing that we found them early and removed them.”
The excited “Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star, also 45, joked that he “won” the competition given the fact he had two more polyps than Reynolds.
I’m not sure if this is a competition I would want to win, or one I’d want to have with my buddy, no less share it with the world. However, kudos to Reynolds and McElhenny, two of the few good guys in Hollywood for putting themselves out there, literally, for cancer awareness.
