“We Rejected the Elites”: Crowd ERUPTS as DeSantis Sounds Off on Elites

Florida Governor and 2022 gubernatorial candidate Ron DeSantis appeared at the National Conservatism Conference in Aventura, Florida, and, during his speech, sounded off on the elites and highlighted his own record in fighting against them and keeping Florida free.

Specifically, he took a bit of a victory lap while also reminding people of how badly off they might have been without him in charge, noting that he was the one that rejected the DC consensus and kept Florida open and free even when most of the country was following the conventional wisdom of the elites and shutting down.

Speaking on that, DeSantis ripped into the elites and noted the many things he and many others on the right think they were wrong about during the pandemic, saying:

“We rejected the elites, and we were right. Not only were they wrong about [closing] schools, the elites were wrong about lockdowns, they were wrong about epidemiological models and hospitalization models, they were wrong about forced masking, they were wrong when they rejected the existence of natural immunity, they were wrong about the efficacy of the mRNA vaccines, and they were wrong when – and I said this – that COVID was seasonal, and now they admit it.”

Continuing, he said:

So, in almost every major, significant issue these elites […] were wrong, and they got it wrong time and time again.”

Then, really driving his point home, DeSantis emphasized what might have happened had he not been in charge, saying:

“We also served, in Florida, as a roadblock to what I think would have taken hold in this country if it weren’t for our leadership, and that’s a biomedical security state. If you look at what they were TRYING to do with a forcing of [schmccines] and passports and all these different things, this country would look a lot different right now if people like me hadn’t stood up and said, ‘Not on my watch, you’re not doing this here.’”

Watch him rip into the elites with a vengeance here:

And that wasn’t all. Bucking the typical Conservative, Inc. talking point that “corporations are good because GDP goes up”, DeSantis skewered corporatism and even attacked those Conservative, Inc. Republicans that defend corporations, many of which have gone woke, saying:

Corporatism is not the same as free enterprise, and I think too many Republicans have viewed limited government to basically mean whatever is best for corporate America is how we want to do the economy.

Explaining what his view of the economy is, DeSantis highlighted the importance of a prosperous society being paired with the good life and helping people live fulfilling lives, saying:

My view is, obviously, free enterprise is the best economic system, but that is a means to an end. It’s a means to having a good and fulfilling life and a prosperous society. It’s not an end in and of itself. The United States is a nation that has an economy, not the other way around, and our economy should be geared for helping our own people.
