Another Athlete With an Opinion: Steph Curry Talks Trump

Here we go again folks! Another athlete/celeb/musician with a political interest, talking out their you-know-what’s. Isn’t it old? Isn’t it tiresome to hear what some “b” list actor, washed up comic or one hit wonder has to say on the state of the political union? I mean, considering most of the people sounding off have absolutely no idea what is going on outside the walls of their gated community or private mansion, aside from what they see on CNN.

I’m all for having an opinion, I really am, despite how stupid or misguided it is, but at the very least do a modicum of research before you spout off, lest you look like a real life “meathead”. Athletes are particularly annoying in the political space. Besides having no knowledge of the real world, some athletes still try to tell you how you should be living and voting. Hey, I don’t call the plays on your sports-ball team, don’t try to tell me who to vote for.

The Golden State Warriors Stephan Curry is the latest NBA player to have strong opinions and not be afraid to tell us! Unfortunately, Steph has a full blow case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that stretches back to 2017; “long Trump” if you will. Check this out from Fox News:

The war of words between Curry and Trump led to the then-president rescinding an invitation for the Warriors to come celebrate their NBA championship at the White House.

In a lengthy interview with Rolling Stone published Monday, Curry dove into the possibility of Trump running for president again in 2024. He said “of course” he is taking “Trump seriously.”

Remember Rolling Stone magazine? It used to be a legitimate source for in depth interviews and insight into the music world that most regular people could never see. Now, sadly it has devolved into a leftist rag whose goal as a publication is to take as many shots at President Trump as they can. Almost as many as Steph pumps up on a nightly basis.

Curry SHOULD take Trump seriously, as he is the defacto leader in all the polls and it’s only 2022.

“Most of his rhetoric — before he was president, during his four years, and even now, if he tries to run again — has a tone of divisiveness that doesn’t have a place in our country,” Curry told the magazine. “As serious and loud as the threat is of him or whoever else is running for office, there’s a similar urgency and a loudness that’s necessary on the other side.”

This is where Curry loses me, aside from the NBA. By citing Trumps supposed “divisiveness”, it only highlights how little Curry is paying attention. We currently have, hands down the most divisive President in our lifetime sitting in the White House. This is a President that just said half the country are extremists for supporting Donald Trump. That cannot be disputed. No matter how bad the political rhetoric got during the Trump administration, Trump never labeled half of the citizenry as potential terrorists.

In the interview, Curry recognized the “beast of politics” and the influence he could have when endorsing a candidate for president and getting out the word about why Americans should vote and making sure every eligible person has the same access to the polls.

The hubris on display is stunning. No one cares who Steph Curry likes for President, and if they do, they probably aren’t old enough to vote. Part of our problem is too many people just voting for whoever they are told to vote for as opposed to policy. Who is being kept away from the polls? If the highest ever voter turnout actually happened in 2020 as we are led to believe, then exactly who is being kept away from the polls? More talking points from a uniformed athlete with no basis in fact.

Steph Curry needs to bounce a ball, Pink needs to (not) sing, Rolling Stone needs to roll away, and politics need to be left to the individual to find out for themselves and decide.
