More Fake News: CNN Invents a Mass Shooting

Remember when we (thought) we could trust our news outlets? Good times, right? Once upon a time, you could expect to get somewhat accurate and fair news from the major networks. Newspapers were trusted sources for local and regional coverage, and if you wanted national news, just go to the library and grab the USA Today or the New York Times, pop a squat and get caught up!

Guess those days are over. Or really, did those days ever exist? In retrospect, it seems likely we were being fed whatever the political persuasion of your local outlet was, we just didn’t realize it. While we trusted the national network news, we were only getting their side of the story. There was no social media, no internet, and no real way to find out if what we were consuming was really accurate. We just had to trust the news.

President Donald Trump famously coined the expression “fake news”, and while the haters hated, my goodness has he been proven right! Especially by the fakest of fake news, CNN. Despite all the criticism and calls for change in their newsrooms, CNN just can’t help themselves when it comes to making stuff up! The network in a Tuesday night column cited machine gun fire and a mass shooting in Sacramento that wasn’t exactly a mass shooting or machine gun fire. Bending the truth a little to fit the narrative? How shocking!

Check this out from Breitbart:

The CNN effort focuses on “auto switches, which turn semiautomatic pistols into full-auto firearms.” The switches are illegal, but CNN points out “the devices appear to be an emerging commodity on the black market.”

As an example, they point to “a mass shooting in Sacramento, California, in which six people were killed and a dozen injured.” The problem with this example is that it was not a mass shooting.

Rather, it was a shootout.

We get these outrageous numbers on the number of so-called mass shootings, and we wonder why we don’t hear about them on the news daily. The goal post as to what constitutes a mass shooting has been moved so far and so often, that it’s hard to know what is and isn’t. Obviously, it works better for the anti-Second Amendment crowd if we just call almost everything a mass shooting in order to scare people, but that’s simply not accurate, and CNN is attempting to twist the Sacramento crossfire shooting into another mass shooting to serve their leftist narrative.

The Sacramento shooting occurred on April 3, 2022, and establishment media outlets quickly labeled it a mass shooting. But on April 6, 2022, Breitbart News noted the Los Angeles Times admitted the Sacramento shooting was likely an exchange of gunfire between gang or street crime rivals rather than a “mass shooting.”

That’s some pretty shady reporting. Change the definition of a mass shooting to fit the narrative, and just outright lie about the circumstances. This kind of yellow journalism might have been possible pre-internet, but not in an age where there are readily available publications covering both sides of every story.

However, that doesn’t matter to CNN, as they keep their collective heads down and run as fast as they can towards irrelevance. Fake news is indeed a thing folks, and it’s up to us to disseminate what is and isn’t real.
