Ron DeSantis’ press secretary Christina Pushaw has announced her resignation from the state office to act as the governor’s re-election campaign’s rapid response director. She announced on Friday that she would resign from her position effective August 12.
Pushaw said in a phone interview with the media, “I am starting a new job on Monday on the governor’s re-election campaign. I’m going to be the director of rapid response. So that’s somewhat similar to what I’m doing now, except more political, obviously. And it’ll involve both communications and research, which I’m excited about.”

She did not forget to thank DeSantis and his officers for giving her “latitude to respond to media narratives in direct and often unconventional ways” and allowing her to “redefine this role for a leader whose actions speak for themselves.”
She added: “Traditionally, for a state employee, you don’t have a lot of latitudes. But I’ve been really fortunate to have that latitude to respond, to debunk those false narratives for more than a year that I’ve been here.”
She added that she is confident that her successor, Bryan Griffin, would do a great job filling her shoes. Griffin formerly served as her deputy, so he is not entirely new to the job, and even as deputy, he had done a fantastic job.
Pushaw also acknowledged that “the chance to play even a small part” in making Florida the “freest state in these United States,” as DeSantis had formerly described the state in adoration, “has truly been the opportunity of a lifetime.”
As she will be working on the governor’s campaign now, she’ll have enough latitude to respond directly to the democrat gubernatorial candidate and be “more direct” regarding how she responds to political attacks.
“I think that is going to be important at this juncture, for the next three months. Our focus has to be on defeating those who would take Florida off the great path that it’s been on under this governor.”
Pushaw had served the governor well as his press secretary, consistently calling out the press who misrepresent facts or are biased in their reportage.
In an interview, Pushaw said this is because “They’re afraid of the governor. The left-wing elites, the establishment, and the corporate media are very much afraid of him. And it shows that he’s a good leader, and that he’s doing a good job.”
In her resignation letter, Pushaw described the challenges that Floridians have been facing. Some challenges she noted included “protecting the rights of citizens to earn a living, gather to worship and celebrate life’s milestones, and raise their children free of unconstitutional mandates.”
Another challenge Pushaw noted was “ensuring that every student is set up for a lifetime of success with high-quality education and not ideological indoctrination.” She also recognized the importance of “upholding the rule of law and keeping Floridians safe” and the significance of protecting life, promoting fatherhood, supporting all families, and leading the country properly and rightfully.
As DeSantis’ re-election campaign’s rapid response director, she also believes she will do him and all the Floridians justice by ensuring he gets reelected to continue his excellent work.
