Police issue statement after Florida woman terminates man breaking into her bedroom

According to officials, a burglar who broke into a Clearwater woman’s bedroom was shot and killed. Around 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Clearwater police say they received a 911 call reporting an intruder at a residence in the 1600 block of Flagler Drive.

WATCH police respond to it:

The woman claimed that a strange man was in her bedroom when she woke up. She informed the police that the man attempted to attack her but that she was able to shoot him after grabbing a gun.

The woman called 911 during the assault, according to Clearwater Police Chief Dan Slaughter, and the dispatcher overheard the fight before the woman was able to reach for her weapon.

“She was able to use that gun to defend herself, and fired one shot which resulted in the death of that intruder,” Slaughter said.

The chief told reporters that the victim has purchased the firearm legally, adding that it appeared to be a clear case of self-defense based on preliminary investigation.

Justin William Wright, a 26-year-old suspect, passed away right after he was wounded. According to Slaughter, the victim was assaulted by a next-door neighbor.

The victim’s injuries are consistent with a struggle and the assault she described to police, making this a clear-cut case.

It is still unclear how Wright entered the house.

As of now, “Clearwater police say their preliminary investigation points to a case of self-defense after the woman said she woke up to find an intruder in her bedroom. When the man began attacking her, she grabbed her gun and fatally shot him.” (per YouTube video description)

A similar story comes from the Orange County:

A 69-year-old woman took out a home intruder this week in Florida and stated that she would easily do it again to protect herself and loved ones, but that she also asks God for forgiveness in taking a man’s life.

The Orange County woman told her story about the terrible experience of shooting the home intruder who busted into her residence.

Her name is Virginia Morrison and she’s 69-years-old and shouldn’t have to deal with home intruders, but this one clearly picked the wrong home to target, as Morrison wasn’t messing around when she took him out for good.

The break in happened around 12:40 that day and Morrison knew something was wrong, according to reports:

“I heard the door handle kind of rattle. And then the door opened and the guy stepped in my house,” she said. “I didn’t know who he was. I looked at him and I said, ‘who are you and what do you want?’ [He said] nothing. The whole time the guy was here. He never said one word and I never saw his eyes move. Total blank,” she said.

Morrison ran to the bedroom and screamed at her partner, Charlie, that there was a man in the house.
