Dan Crenshaw gets called ‘Eyepatch McCain’ in confrontation with provocateurs, issues response after incident

Rep. Dan Crenshaw and his staff were forcefully approached and challenged by provocateurs at the Republican Party of Texas convention a few days ago.

The Texas Republican was lambasted as “a globalist RINO [Republican in name only]” and “Eyepatch McCain” by Alex Stein, a podcast host and conspiracy theorist. Stein got into a shoving match with Crenshaw’s entourage at a Houston convention center. This became public after Stein together with other persons released the footage.

The video shows the group of others shouting things like “You are a traitor” and “You sold us out,” and Stein drawn into a skirmish with Crenshaw’s team. A man in a beige suit was shoved against a wall in the incident and stumbled backward.

Crenshaw said of the incident: “This is what happens when angry little boys like @alexstein99 don’t grow up and can’t get girlfriends…

“You’re giving Ukraine all this money, and red flag laws too, Dan?” demanded a Twitter user named Alex Rosen to the 38-year-old congressman as he was being ushered into a lobby by a uniformed officer as he walked with a group of others, images showed.

As the standoff escalated, the content creator described Crenshaw as a “fraud” and a “World Economic Forum sell-out,” and “eye-patch McCain.”

“Klaus Schwab is literally your daddy,” declared the heckler, referring to the executive chairman of the World Economic Forum.

“Sir take it easy,” a man wearing a “Sargent at Arms” t-shirt said, after another suited man moved to obstruct Rosen’s progress. “You have a right to voice your opinion but not to beat people.”

“Beat people? I didn’t push nobody! That was the other tall guy named Alex,” he responded.

“Dan Crenshaw is a traitor! He needs to be hung for treason!” exclaimed a man in a red Donald Trump hat near the end of the 2-minute and 15-second clip. The person is part of the extremist hate group The Proud Boys, witnesses told Mediaite.

“They got physical with multiple people, including hitting them with cameras,” a witness who was present at the scene told the outlet. “His campaign manager was assaulted by being pushed aggressively into a pillar.”

Stein and others were then escorted out of the building and “some arrests” were being made, a witness was quoted as saying.

The activist and comedian denied any responsibility for the actual physical confrontation in a single tweet.

“I just want to make it clear that no one was assaulted today other than myself by Dan Crenshaw’s private police force,” he wrote.

“The videos clearly prove this fact and more video will be posted in order to exonerate myself and uncover the lies of the legacy media running cover for Dan.”

Crenshaw, also a former Navy Seal, lost his eye while he was deployed in Afghanistan. The “Eyepatch McCain” slur was made up by the Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who likened Crenshaw’s support for sending military aid to Ukraine as it fought Russian invaders to the bellicose policies of the late Republican Senator John McCain.

Stein has included footage of Carlson using the barb at the conclusion of her Twitter video of the incident.
