A legendary country singer has revealed recently that he’s dealing with cancer. Not only is he well known for his music career, but he’s also been in a few movies such as Broken Bridges or Tennessee Whiskey.
There’s a good chance you’ve heard of the song Courtesy of the Red, White and blue. It’s a real hit among the country scene and well known even to those who aren’t into that type of music. This song was one of the biggest hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was the first gold single. It’s also now marked down as the number one song in multitudes of playlists by Toby Keith, and if not, it’s at least in one of the top 10.
Country legend Toby Keith revealed Sunday that he was, as of late determined to have stomach cancer and has been secretly getting treated for it.
“Last fall I was diagnosed with stomach cancer,” Keith, 60, wrote on Twitter. “I’ve spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation, and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax. I am looking forward to spending this time with my family, but I will see the fans sooner than later. I can’t wait.”
Stomach cancer can be built up over time with smoking and intake of highly processed foods or salt being a contributing factors. There may not even be any symptoms of it early on, but later symptoms can develop to feeling bloated after eating, and getting full quickly – causing you to eat less. In addition, you could experience episodes of heartburn, indigestion, nausea, and vomiting blood.
Treatments can include medications to help the symptoms, radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery.
Stomach cancer “begins when cells in the stomach start to grow out of control,” as per the American Cancer Society. Also known as gastric cancer, stomach cancer represents around 1.5% of all new cancers diagnosed in America each and every year. Survival rates largely depend on how far the growth has spread, and how far along the cancer is.
One of his most famous songs, “Courtesy of Red, White and Blue” was written in response to the events that happened on 9/11 here in America. The song struck an emotional chord with the military. Afterward, he continued on to release several popular albums and even took part in acting back in 2008. Then, in 2017 he also performed at former President Donald Trump’s pre-inauguration concert at the Lincoln Memorial.
He’s long attempted to help those fighting cancer. In 2006, Toby started the Toby Keith Foundation, an association that converges its efforts around a no-cost lodging for kids with malignant growth. In 2014, the establishment opened OK Kids Korral, an expense-free home for pediatric disease patients who get therapy at the Children’s Hospital at OU Medical Center in OK.
Toby is expected to perform at Coachella Crossroads in Coachella, California this November 11. Shows planned for June, through September are still recorded on Keith’s website at this time. It’s unclear as to the number of these that will be canceled, assuming any will be live at all.
