A tragedy happened yesterday when a deranged gunman shot up a grocery store in New York, raging against the world by spitting lead from the barrel of his rifle.
And so, despite the fact that there were warning signs of him potentially being dangerous that were largely ignored, despite the fact that almost all social media users and AR-15 owners are entirely peaceful and law-abiding citizens, New York’s crazy governor, Kathy Hochul, is calling for a deranged crackdown on guns and social media.
She did so on Sunday when she appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” and said, in typical “never let a tragedy go to waste” fashion, that it’s time to start cracking down on those with whom she disagrees.
Hochul began that call for a crackdown by viciously attacking those with views she finds reprehensible, saying that they need to “crawl back into their holes”:
“They need to be called out. And leaders elected officials from both parties need to stand up at this moment and call it out and to shame it and to make sure these people crawl back into their holes and stay there. This cannot be part of our mainstream dialogue here in the United States of America. Leaders have a responsibility to call it out.”
Yes, the ideology of the shooter was vile. But comparing people to rats or vile creatures and demanding they remain hidden in “holes” is entirely unproductive, the sort of attitude that pushes people into becoming radicalized in the first place.
That’s particularly true given that she said no such thing when a black supremacist opened fire on a crowded subway in New York City mere weeks ago, cutting down dozens.
In any case, Hochul evidently felt that she was on a roll, as she continued her unhinged rant about how terrible freedom is, turning to a blistering attack on guns and free speech and vowing to do more to limit the freedom of New Yorkers, saying:
“As a leader of the state of New York, I also have a responsibility to make sure we protect people with respect to guns. We have some of the toughest laws in America on the books here, but the guns are coming in from other states or the enhanced magazine, which is exactly what happened here, the high-capacity magazine that led to the slaughter of people in my hometown.
“So, we are dealing with it on the gun side but also on the social media side. And the combination of the wild access to guns, unfettered, we need national laws to deal with this as well as the unfettered sharing of hate information on the internet, that is a lethal combination. We saw that on display here just hours ago yesterday.”
Sorry Kathy, but the Constitution protects the right to keep and bear arms (2nd Amendment) and to share “hate information” (1st Amendment), no matter how many lonely cat women like you hate it.
The solution to mass shootings is enabling the good guys to carry guns, not to crack down on freedom in response to some deranged lunatic shooting up a store.
Further, Hochul’s blitzkrieg-like attack on rights in this situation and insouciance about the situation when the black nationalist shot up the New York subway shows the anti-white, race-based lens through which Democrats view all aspects of daily life in America.
