Former First Lady Melania Trump gave her first post-White House interview this past weekend and commented on something we all noticed for four years. She was never on the cover of Vogue magazine.
I only know people who read Vogue while they’re waiting in line at the grocery store, so part of this is a nonstory. No Vogue? Whatever. At the same time, however, the issue is not about gracing a magazine cover, per se, as it is about dominant cultural forces determine how people think and feel.
Melania Trump is one of the most elegant, gracious, beautiful, and charming women ever to live in the WHite House alongside POTUS. Just wrap your head around this: Hillary Clinton was on it twice while Bill was there. The mean, gross, and not-at-all-photogenic Clinton was on the cover of a beauty magazine two more times than a stunning model. Yikes.
Twitter noticed this discrepancy as well, with one video in particular making the viral rounds.
In first interview since leaving the WH, Melania is asked, “With your business background, and your fashion background, and your beauty, never on the cover of Vogue?”

“Yet, with your business background, your fashion background, and your beauty – never on the cover of Vogue. Why the double standard?” Melania is asked at one point.
“They’re biased and they have likes and dislikes. It’s so obvious. And I think the American people and everyone sees it,” she stated. “It was their decision and I had much more important things to do – and I did in the White House – than being on the cover of Vogue.”
According to Breitbart, “Trump’s comments came during an interview with Fox and Friends Weekend’s Pete Hegseth, in which he pointed out that the last three first ladies who were the wives of Democratic presidents had made the cover during their respective tenures in the White House.”
Breitbart went on to note the extent to which the wives of Democrat presidents appeared on the cover. It isn’t just a matter of appearing or not, but rather not appearing at all versus an extreme overexposure.
“Twice failed presidential candidate and former first lady Hillary Clinton made the cover while her husband, former President Bill Clinton, was in office, and Michelle Obama was featured on the cover three times when she was the first lady, People documented. Hegseth noted that Jill Biden made the cover five months into Joe Biden’s presidency, and so did Vice President Kamala Harris before assuming office.
And as much as Donald Trump and anyone within his orbit was hated (no matter how decent a person they were, such as Melania) what’s really crazy is that the trend was not just limited to them. Breitbart continues:
“People noted that Vogue had photographed former Republican first ladies Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush, and Laura Bush, but none of them appeared on the cover. Trump did grace the cover in 2005 following her marriage to Donald Trump, in which she donned her wedding dress.”
Catch that? Melania made the cover when she married Donald Trump just a decade earlier, but once he became persona non grata rather than billionaire celebrity everything changed. It’s also worth wondering if a Republican First Lady has ever been on the cover?
These people are all frauds.
