“Will Continue Protecting Our Kids”: Republican-Led Alabama Has Fierce Response To Biden Administration

The Alabama legislature recently decided to pass two bills regarding transgender children, bills that were meant to protect children, bills that were duly signed by the Alabama governor, Kay Ivey.

The first bill, SB184, prohibits prescribing transgender conversion therapies to minors, something that many consider to be quite reasonable given that it applies only to children, children who might be confused and whose minds aren’t fully developed.

The other bill, HB322, is much like the bills recently passed in Florida and Georgia; it prohibits discussions regarding sexual orientation from kindergarten to 5th grade, or the elementary school level, in Alabama public schools and has a bathroom component that prohibits transgender people from using a bathroom other than the one meant for their biological sex.

Well, the White House wasn’t happy about those bills in the least. So, Jen Psaki fired off a blistering message and threat directed toward Alabama, saying:

Today in Alabama, instead of focusing on critical kitchen table issues like the economy, COVID, or addressing the country’s mental health crisis, Republican lawmakers are currently debating legislation that, among many things, would target trans youth with tactics that threaten to put pediatricians in prison if they provide medically necessary lifesaving health care for the kids they serve.

Just like the extreme government overreach we’ve seen in Texas, where politicians have sent state officials into the homes of loving parents to investigate them for abuse just to harass and intimidate the LGBTQI+ community, today’s vote in Alabama will only serve to harm kids.

But Alabama’s lawmakers and other legislators who are contemplating these discriminatory bills have been put on notice by the Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services that laws and policies preventing care that health care professionals recommend for transgender minors may violate the Constitution and federal law.

The Alabama governor, however, wasn’t cowed by Peppermint Patty’s bluster and Slow Joe’s threats. Rather, she fired off a scorching statement in response to Team Biden’s threatening messaging, saying in a comment to Breitbart that:

“Alabama will continue protecting our kids and not letting out-of-state liberals like Jen Psaki and the Biden White House tell us what to do.

Our state is prepared to defend our values. Like I said, we need to focus on properly developing our children into the adults God intended them to be.”

That’s how one deals with leftist threats and bluster. Bowing down doesn’t work, nor does retreating or apologizing; those actions only show weakness and give the left more encouragement to keep attacking.

Rather, by forcefully striking back and not taking a single step back, as Governor Ivey did, members of the GOP can stand up to the left, advance the agendas that their constituents want them to advance, and resist the left’s attempts to cow them into submission.

Alabama is charting a brave course in fighting this culture war issue. Hopefully the state and its governor will maintain their courage as Florida and DeSantis have.
