Is Trump Coming Back to Twitter? Twitter Says No, But Elon Suggest Change in Hilarious Tweet

Many, upon hearing that Elon Musk had used a few of his billions to buy a massive stake in Twitter, expected that the eccentric, pro-free speech billionaire would use his enhanced clout to push change through the social media company and wage a war for free speech. Particularly, they expected that people like Donald Trump would be let back on the platform.

As a reminder, Trump was “permanently banned” back in January of 2021, with the platform saying:

After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that’s going to change, at least not any time soon. That’s because Twitter just emailed out a statement saying that although the company’s board “plays an important advisory and feedback role,” its “policy decisions are not determined by the board or shareholders, and we have no plans to reverse any policy decisions.”

In other words, it said that Elon wouldn’t be able to bring back Trump simply by buying shares and sitting on the Board of Directors.

Further, Breitbart reports that while he might be being granted some deference as a result of his massive financial power and popularity, that could end up meaning less than some think. In its words:

Jo-Ellen Pozner, a professor at Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business, stated that the addition of one person to a company’s board should not make a huge difference to company policies. Pozner stated: “The fact that he took a $2 billion-plus position in this company and got on the board right away suggests he is being paid deference and might demand deference that most people would not be able to command. I would not be surprised if there were shakeups of various sorts following this development.”

Despite that bad news for the short term, it still could be possible for Elon to effect change that eventually results in Trump being allowed back on the platform so we can all experience his glorious, hilarious tweets once again.

Elon hinted as much in a recent, utterly hilarious tweet. Rather than saying any words, he simply posted a meme of him smoking weed during his infamous Joe Rogan Experience Interview with the caption “Twitter’s next board meeting is gonna be lit.

Now, maybe it’s just a meme, but it could also be a message that Elon intends on shaking things up at the company in a major way, a way that might include rolling back censorious policies of the sort that led to Trump being kicked off in the first place.

That’s by no means certain but, given his past statements on free speech and cancel culture, seems possible if not entirely likely.

Still, in the short term, it looks like Trump will unfortunately not be coming back to Twitter.
