Arizona Weighing Bill to Protect Firearm Industry from Bank Discrimination

One major threat facing American gun companies right now is that banks are deciding that such companies shouldn’t exist, and thus are cutting them off from financial services and markets in a campaign of debanking. By starving the banks of funds and the ability to buy and sell goods and services as needed, the leftist-run banks aim to shut down the American firearm industry,

Well, the Arizona legislature is weighing taking action to stop such anti-liberty attacks on the right of American firearm companies to conduct their business. If the firearm companies are acting legally, why should the financial pipelines be able to shut them out?

The legislature is considering doing so in the form of HB 2473, a bill which would, according to State Rep. Frank Carroll, its sponsor, “prohibit state contractors, who receive taxpayer money, from discriminating against firearm-related businesses, and therefore the rights guaranteed under the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution and Article 2, Section 26 of the Arizona State Constitution.

To do so, section A of the bill provides that:

A PUBLIC ENTITY MAY NOT ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITH A VALUE OF $100,000 OR MORE WITH A COMPANY TO ACQUIRE OR DISPOSE OF SERVICES, SUPPLIES, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY OR CONSTRUCTION UNLESS THE CONTRACT INCLUDES A WRITTEN CERTIFICATION THAT THE COMPANY DOES NOT CURRENTLY, AND AGREES FOR THE DURATION OF THE CONTRACT THAT IT WILL NOT, DISCRIMINATE AGAINST A FIREARM ENTITY.

Additionally, section B of the bill provides that:

A PUBLIC ENTITY MAY NOT ADOPT A PROCUREMENT, INVESTMENT OR OTHER POLICY THAT HAS THE EFFECT OF INDUCING OR REQUIRING A PERSON OR COMPANY TO DISCRIMINATE AGAINST A FIREARM ENTITY.

So, to counteract the debanking problem, the Arizona legislature would prevent itself from doing business with any entity that refuses to do service with the firearm industry. Or, in other words, if a bank wants to do business with the Arizona government, then it can’t discriminate against a firearm entity.

Describing why the legislation is important, State Rep. Carroll also said:

Anti-firearm banks have expressed interest in denying services to the firearm industry to effectively impose de facto gun control by making it hard, if not impossible, to do business. While I don’t believe that government should dictate private business decisions, businesses that exercise political ideology, agendas and values antithetical to our constitutional rights should not be supported with taxpayer money.

And the bill very well could pass. It recently made it out of committee and is now ready to be heard by the full AZ Senate.

Yet better, Arizona isn’t the only state to stand up to the financiers that would destroy the firearms industry if they could. Oklahoma recently did so too, with its governor declaring he’d stand up for the 2nd Amendment and firearm companies, saying:

We just want all the manufacturers–the arms companies, the ammo manufacturers–to know that they are welcome in our state. There are banks lined up in Oklahoma to do business with the gun manufacturing industry, and the gun industry here in our state.

America wouldn’t be what it is without firearms and the companies that make them. Thank goodness some states are standing up for those companies.
