Porn Star Stormy Daniels has had such a bad few years, we could almost feel sorry for her. Almost. Consider some of her recent misfortunes:
- Her claims against former president Donald Trump fell mostly on deaf ears, as her accusations that representatives of Trump had threatened her, and that Trump himself had defamed her, had very little impact on public opinion.
- Her lawsuit against Trump seeking $130,000 in damages failed.
- She was ripped off by disgraced former attorney and convicted felon Michael Avenatti who is currently in prison for, among other things, having defrauded Daniels of $300,000.
- And this week, the appeal of her failed lawsuit was rejected by a judge who has ordered her to pay Trump’s legal fees of $300,000 in the case.
Yup, that’s a pretty stormy stretch for Stormy, but the adult film star – whose real name is Stephanie Clifford – is digging in her high heels and is not going down quietly.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Daniels explained, “Once it was filed, Trump’s lawyers overwhelmed Avenatti and I was left the victim of an attorney’s fee award.” In the statement, she launched multiple insults at Trump, referring to him as “Tiny,” calling him a “predator,” and claiming that Trump “can openly brag about assaulting women and become president and be awarded money for his bad behavior.”
Hell hath no fury like Stormy scorned.
The day before releasing that statement, Daniels took to Twitter to proclaim, “I will go to jail before I pay a penny.” Considering her current circumstances and the fact that she’s almost out of legal options, we may very well find out if she’s sincere or not.
We don’t know Daniels’ background, or what her upbringing was like, and it’s hard not to feel at least some compassion for her. She was likely led along by the scummy Avenatti who swindled almost half of her $800,000 advance for the book she wrote. She works in an industry that blatantly objectifies women and demands that participants have little or no self-esteem. And she works with and for people who must be some of the most despicable on earth. It’s sad.
But let’s also remember her actions. She was piling on Trump with Avenatti with a clear purpose of getting some of Trump’s money, as is clear by the settlement she signed prior to the 2016 election. She tried to impact Trump’s political career with virtually no evidence. And her rhetoric against Trump and anyone with whom she disagrees has been repugnant.
So, if this is the route Stormy Daniels wants to take – going to jail instead of obeying the law and paying Trump what she owes him – all we can do is shake our heads… and wonder if she and Avenatti will be pen pals while they’re incarcerated.
