Special Treatment?: Jussie Sent to a Psych Ward

The end of the courtroom part of the Jussie Smollett trial ended in a somewhat surprising way. Jussie, apparently thinking that he was going to be “Epsteined” in prison, started proclaiming his innocence and desire to live upon hearing his sentence, yelling “I am not suicidal! I am innocent!

Watch that here:

According to the New York Post, Smollett’s attorney had this to say on the outburst:

‘I don’t want people to think, “Well, is he going crazy? Why is he yelling ‘I’m not suicidal?’” He was doing it for a specific reason because, let’s be honest, we have the Epstein situation, where he was found dead in his jail even in protective custody,

‘What Mr. Smollett was concerned about was, what if he turns up dead in protective custody? He doesn’t want people to think he killed himself.’

Well, in what probably won’t be a surprise to anyone who watched that psychotic outburst, Jussie’s brother, speaking in a video on his brother’s Instagram account, that Jussie is being incarcerated in a psych ward right now. In his words:

So Jussie is currently in a psych ward at the Cook County Jail. What’s very concerning is that there was a note attached to his paperwork today and put in front of his jail cell saying that he’s at risk of self-harm.

He added to that by saying:

I want to make it clear that he is in no way, shape, or form at risk of self-harm. He wants to let folks know that he is very stable, he is very strong, he is very healthy and ready to take on the challenge that… has been put up against him.

So, if he’s not suicidal and not at risk of harming himself, then why’s he in the psych ward? Well, according to a law enforcement official that spoke to TMZ, that’s because the psych ward area is where famous inmates are housed. In that outlet’s words:
