Is She Leaving? Psaki Addresses Departure Rumors

Rumors recently began to dribble out that Jen Psaki, Ms. “Circle Back,” might finally be leaving her job as the White House press secretary and moving into a role in the leftist media.

However, Jen hadn’t addressed those rumors until the press briefing on Friday the 25th, when asked about them directly, with a reporter asking “Can you confirm that you are looking for a job at CNN or MSNBC?

Psaki, shooting down the rumors, said “I have more than enough on my plate here.  So, you can’t get rid of quite yet.  Sorry, Peter, for you on that.” Her comment was followed by a chorus of laughter in the press room.

That stands in stark contrast to what a newsletter called Puck, which first discussed the rumors that Psaki might be being courted by leftist media, reported. It, discussing the issue, said:

Earlier this month…CNN interim co-president Amy Entelis and CNN+ programming lead Rebecca Kutler were in Washington for a top-secret and mission-critical recruitment assignment. The chaos embroiling their brand had not deterred their efforts to court a new potential on-air talent who, in their eyes, had the potential to become a marquee star both in the CNN lineup and its nascent streaming service.

They weren’t the only ones to hatch this novel idea. Less than one week later, NBC News Chairman Cesar Conde and MSNBC President Rashida Jones made a similar pilgrimage to Washington to meet with the very same talent, in the hopes that she might one day join their networks in a flagship role, and perhaps even take the top spot in primetime on MSNBC…

[…]The potential talent, of course, was Jen Psaki, the White House Press Secretary.

Similarly, the New York Post reported much the same thing about Psaki and her potential departure, saying:

A source told The Post that UTA super agent and co-president Jay Sures shopped the idea of Psaki as a potential cable news primetime host all over town, drumming up interest, before he signed her.

His timing couldn’t be better as TV networks are looking to shake up their lineups. And perhaps more urgently for CNN and MSNBC, both networks are in need of new blood for their primetime shows.

However, Psaki shot down those claims when asked about them, so for now we’ll have to take her word for it and trust that her verbal fencing with Peter Doocy and utter refusal to answer questions will continue.

Still, it’s possible for both to be true at the same time. It’s very possible that both CNN and MSNBC are starved for talent and looking for someone, anyone, with at least semi-positive name recognition with a leftist audience and that Psaki fits that bill.

If so, it would make sense for them to be courting her and for her to play the rumors off as long as possible.

Additionally, if you look at what exactly she said, she didn’t say she would never leave for a leftist outlet. She just said “not quite yet.” That’s far less definitive and could really mean anything.

So, while we’re stuck with Psaki for now, that doesn’t mean she’ll be sticking around indefinitely.
