Right now, the Trudeau regime in Canada is waging war on free speech. Taking a cue from the banks that have kicked everyone from 2nd Amendment advocates to Mike Lindell out in the name of…”safety” or some such nonsense, Trudeau is going after the bank accounts of his political enemies. Speaking on that plan in a press conference, he said:
“After discussing with cabinet and caucus, after consultation with premiers from all provinces and territories, the federal government has invoked the emergencies act to supplement provincial and territorial capacity to address the blockades and occupations.
I want to be very clear, the scope of these measures will be time-limited, geographically targeted, as well as reasonable and proportionate to the threats they are meant to address. The emergencies act will be used to strengthen and support law enforcement agencies at all levels across the country.”
He added that “In addition, financial institutions will be authorized and directed to render essential services to help address the situation including by regulating and prohibiting the use of property to fund or support illegal blockades.”
According to him, it will be “time-limited” and “geographically targeted.” Sure. Leftist dictators are known to give up power as soon as it’s no longer “necessary,” right? Trudeau’s possible father, Fidel Castro, sure did! So did the Chinese communists and Soviets. Those emergency powers are always given up the moment the threat passes.
Oh, wait, in their eyes, there is always a threat lurking in the shadows. After the truckers have been impoverished and the back of their protest has been broken, will that really be the end of it? No, of course not. “Transphobes,” “racists,” or some other enemy of wokeness will be the pressing threat that needs to be debanked in the name of public safety.
Of course, Trudeau tried to play it off as the peaceful, reasonable choice, saying:
“We’re not using the emergencies act to call in the military. We are not suspending fundamental rights or overriding the charter of rights and freedoms. We are not limiting people’s freedom of speech. We are not limiting freedom of peaceful assembly. We are not preventing people from exercising their right to protest legally. We are reinforcing the principles, values and institutions that keep all Canadians free.”
In his mind, they should be thanking him for not calling in the military, Assad-style, to gun down peaceful protesters! He’s really a benevolent dictator, he just seizes their assets and starves them to death. Much cleaner that way, and in line with what communists from Stalin during the Holodomor to Mao during the “Great Leap Forward” did to eradicate their enemies.
That’s the threat we’re facing; a complete and total war on speech the regime doesn’t approve of.
Imagine, if you will, a few years from now when you post something about the Braves on Twitter, Gab, or whatever other social media platform. Unbeknownst to you, saying you like the Atlanta Braves MLB team is racist because they don’t acknowledge the lived experience of Native Americans killed by settlers before every pitch. So, Visa cancels your credit card, Bank of America cancels your checking account, and Fidelity shuts down your investment account.
That’s the future Trudeau and all those who do nothing to condemn or stop him are creating. A complete and total war on free speech, a complete and total shutdown of anti-regime sentiment.
