Rep. Gaetz Has a Dire Warning about What the January 6th Committee is Up To

What’s the January 6th Committee, that gang of hyena-like Democrats and RINOs interested only in bringing down the “bad orange man,” up to?

Nothing good. Most obviously, it’s trying to smear Trump and everyone who voted for him or protested on his behalf as an “insurrectionist.” Hence why they’re playing up an event in which a few people, some of whom were likely FBI agents, wandered around the Capitol and took selfies.

According to the hacks on the committee, that’s way more important than the billions in damage done and dozens killed by BLM and Antifa-affiliated thugs and rioters during the summer of 2020.

In their eyes, a selfie at AOC’s desk is worse than a summer of flames and destruction because the selfie can be used to attack Trump.

But, according to Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), it’s not just that they want to smear Trump. They’re also trying to use their power to disqualify him from running again.

He said as much in a statement to Just the News, making the incisive argument that what they’re really after is making it legally impossible for Trump to run again:

Disqualifying potential candidates is the newest and most dangerous iteration of cancel culture. I believe the January 6th committee is going to try to do it regarding Donald Trump. I believe some woke activists in North Carolina are trying to do it right now in a very important test case regarding [first-term North Carolina Republican Rep.] Madison Cawthorn.”

So far, the well-traveled path of the January 6 committee is to serve up and gaslight opportunity for criminal process to [Attorney General] Merrick Garland.

As background, the 14th Amendment contains the “disqualification clause,” which disqualifies anyone who has supported an “insurrection” against the United States from running for public office.

Originally meant to prevent former Confederates from running for elected office, Rep. Gaetz is now predicting that they’re going to try to turn it on Trump, hence why they keep referring to a minor trespass as an “insurrection.”

That’s the key word they need to stop Trump from running, and it’s what the leftist activists he’s referring to are doing to try and challenge Rep. Cawthorne, whose comments they say “amounted to an insurrection.”

Gaetz also argued that rather than shying away from power and destroying the Committee after the GOP sweeps back into power, as past generations of Republicans might have done, it should repurpose the committee to investigate the role of the FBI and woke instigators on that day.

In other words, rather than spiking the cannons after capturing them, he wants to turn them on their old masters. He said as much in his statement, arguing:

We can no longer be called conspiracy theorists for suggesting that because, of course, no less than the New York Times has reported that the federal government had agents and assets on the ground on January 6. And when under oath in front of the country, senators asked senior officials with the FBI whether any of their assets or agents had committed crimes on that day, they would not provide an answer.”

Sadly, Rep. Gaetz is likely correct; the reason they’re latching onto the “insurrection” narrative is that it’s a tool with which they can savage their political enemies. Perhaps it’s time we turn the cannons on them.
