Horrific: Pelosi Tells US Athletes to Stay Quiet about China During the Olympics

Rep. Nancy Pelosi apparently doesn’t believe that Red China is evil, or at least not evil enough to be worth the diplomatic hullaballoo that would result were US athletes to protest the tyrannical regime during the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics.

Though that was the conclusion of her speech, she (surprisingly) started out strong, calling out the Chinese regime for its evil ways. Speaking on that, she said:

When the Winter Olympic Games begin tomorrow in Beijing, the Chinese once again will attempt to distract the world from a decades-long campaign of abuse and repression. But the United States and the international community know the truth.

While we fully support and will root for our athletes, we cannot and will not be silent on human rights in China. Over the next two weeks, it is our urgent moral duty to shine a bright light on the many human rights violations being perpetrated by the host nation.

In fact, she even went so far as to call out the Olympics Committee and the corporate sponsors of the Olympics for turning a “blind eye” to the abuses and horrific nature of the Chinese regime, saying:

Now the IOC, aided by corporate sponsors, once again turns a blind eye with the 2022 Winter Olympics just to bolster their bottom line.

“f we do not speak out against human rights violations in China, because of commercial interests, we lose all moral authority to speak out against human rights violations anywhere.

Had she ended it there, or, yet better, continued along that line and drove her point about the communist regime home by calling on athletes to take a stand on something the corporate sponsors won’t, it would have been a good speech.

But, of course, she couldn’t end it there. She had to toe the Chinese line in some form or another, so, despite having just attacked others for turning “a blind eye” to the abuses of the regime, she encouraged US athletes to do the same, saying:

I would say to our athletes — you are there to compete. Do not risk incurring the anger of the Chinese government because they are ruthless.

I know there is a temptation on the part of some to speak out while they are there; I respect that. But, I also worry about what the Chinese government might do to their reputations, to their families.

Watch her here:

The message there is one of weakness, that the Pax Americana is over and that the US can no longer protect its own from the ravages of a tyrannical regime.

Perhaps Pelosi is right and the US can’t protect its athletes from the Chinese if they choose to take a stand against genocide, against tyranny. But for her to admit it, for her to say without contrition that the US is so weak that it can no longer protect its representatives, that’s shameful and shows just how far the US has fallen.
