I’ll admit that I couldn’t care less what happens to Whoopi Goldberg. As in, her fate is of no relevance to me other than the humor her thrashing demise provides. Her comment was stupid and an obvious attempt to push black higher up the victimhood Olympics relative to Jews, but otherwise wasn’t really all that meaningful. A host with seven brain cells said something dumb. Shocker.
But, unfortunately, the schadenfreude is present to such a degree, especially now that she’s threatening self-immolation over receiving a slap on the wrist, that’s it’s just impossible not to cover. So here we go.
According to the New York Post, Whoopi, who was suspended for two weeks after saying the Holocaust wasn’t about race because Jews are white, is freaking out over her light punishment. In its words:
Whoopi Goldberg is “livid” after she was suspended from “The View” over her claim that the Holocaust was “not about race” — and is telling co-workers she is going to quit the show, according to a source.
Goldberg, 66, feels “humiliated” at being disciplined by ABC execs after she followed their advice to apologize for the ill-conceived comments, a well-placed insider told The Post.
“She feels ABC executives mishandled this. She followed their playbook. She went on ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ and then apologized again on ‘The View’ the next day,” a source said.
So, because she feels that she went through enough ritualistic humiliation but is still being punished, even if only to a slight degree relative to all those conservatives who have been canceled for less, she’s threatening to quit.
Yes, that’s right. Rather than lose the job she supposedly cares about for two weeks, enough time for a nice vacation, she wants to make her self-imposed exile from “The View” permanent.
Again according to the New York Post’s source, “Her ego has been hurt and she’s telling people she’s going to quit. Suspension from ‘The View’ is like getting suspended from Bravo. The bar is very low.”
It’s all so dumb, but boy is it funny. As a quick summary, one that presents the issue from a reasonable perspective so you can see how absurd it all is: Whoopi downplayed the Holocaust so that blacks would seem more oppressed than the Jews. The AIPAC types freaked out immediately, raising bloody hell on Twitter over a comment that deserved a frustrated eye roll. NBC panicked and suspended her despite her attempt to do a halfway ritual of self-flagellation before the woke mob. She’s pissed because she thinks she should have gotten away with it.
Normally, this would be a time to step in and talk about free speech. But it’s not because she’s a leftist; she has it coming. Which is what makes it so funny. Now, all of her friends, people who scream for a conservative’s head anytime a syllable he utters could be taken in the wrong way, are claiming she’s being mistreated and she’s ready to imitate those Vietnamese monks, all because of a meaninglessly light punishment.
It’s so dumb, so self-destructive. But hey, if the left is eating its own, why not just cheer them on and chuckle?
