Patriotic NBA Star Enes Kanter Freedom Slams NBA Owner for Saying that No One Cares about the Uighurs

While many pro-athletes, especially in the NBA and NFL, at least present themselves as radical leftists, some are patriots.

One such patriotic NBA player is Enes Kanter Freedom, a man so excited when he earned his US citizenship that he changed his last name from “Kanter” to “Freedom.”

He, while others in his sport and on his team have remained silent about the genocide against the Uighurs going on in China, a major market for the NBA, or even defended the reprehensible actions of that communist state, has spoken out and verbally attacked the new evil empire.

And that includes attacking other NBA figures that support Red China, as his recent response to China defender and Warriors Co-Owner Chamath Palihapitiya shows.

The background is that Palihapitiya appeared on the All-In podcast and spoke dismissively of Red China’s campaign of genocide against the Uighurs, saying:

“Nobody cares about what’s happening to the Uyghurs, OK? You bring it up because you really care, and I think it’s nice that you care. The rest of us don’t care. I’m just telling you a very hard, ugly truth. Of all the things that I care about, yes, it is below my line. Of all the things that I care about, it is below my line.

That’s not caring. … I care about the fact that our economy can turn on a dime if China invades Taiwan. I care about climate change. I care about America’s crippling and decrepit health care infrastructure. But if you ask me do I care about a segment of a class of people in another country? Not until we can take care of ourselves will I prioritize them over us.

And I think a lot of people believe that and I’m sorry if that’s a hard truth to hear, but every time I say that I ‘care about the Uyghurs’, I’m really just lying if I don’t really care and so I rather not lie to you and tell you the truth. It’s not a priority for me.

If that seems too wild to believe, you can watch the video here:

Well, Mr. Freedom didn’t take too kindly to that dismissal of genocide and the evil nature of Red China. In fact, he responded brilliantly on Twitter, saying:

When @NBA says we stand for justice, don’t forget there are those who sell their soul for money & business like @chamath the owner of @warriors, who says “Nobody cares about what’s happening to the Uyghurs”

When genocides happen, it is people like this that let it happen

Shame!

“Shame!” indeed, Palihapitiya’s comments were truly reprehensible.

Just think, would anyone think about agreeing with him if he defended the Holocaust, Rwandan genocide, or North Korean regime? No, of course not. So why is Mr. Freedom the only one in the NBA condemning him for defending China’s genocidal acts?

It’s wonderful that Mr. Freedom is brave enough to call out such detestable defenses of Red China. It’s disappointing that he’s one lonely voice in the NBA that’s doing so.
