During the Old Dominion’s gubernatorial election, the Democrat candidate, McAuliffe, said that there is no role for parents in determining what a school’s curriculum should be.
Specifically, during a debate, he said “I’m not going to let parents come into schools and actually take books out and make their own decisions. I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach.”
Then, later, he doubled down on that insane talking point during an interview, saying “Listen, we have a board of ed working with the local school boards to determine the curriculum for our schools. You don’t want parents coming in in every different school jurisdiction saying, ‘This is what should be taught here’ and, ‘This is what should be taught here.’”
So, McAuliffe presented himself as being the bulwark against all those reactionary parents that might not want the schools to trans their kids or push race communism (CRT) on 6-year-olds.
Unsurprisingly, that made him unpopular among parents, especially compared to Youngkin, who told McAuliffe during the aforementioned debate “I believe parents should be in charge of their kids’ education.”
Since that fateful debate, Youngkin, how the Old Dominion’s governor, hasn’t backed down. Rather, he’s doubled down on his assertion that parents should play a major role in determining what their kids should be taught.
During his appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” Youngkin had this to say to John Roberts, the host:
“What we heard from voters on November 2, from all voters, not Republicans versus Democrats, but from Virginians, was that they are ready for a new way forward,” he said. “We won the independent vote, we had droves of Democrats come across the aisle. We won the Hispanic vote and the Asian vote. We had a greater percentage of the Black vote than any Republicans got in recent memory. What this demonstrates to me is that Virginians are ready for a new direction.”
And what is that new direction in which Virginians want to head? One where they have more control over the education of their children. In his words:
“In Virginia, it is clear under law that parents have a fundamental right to make decisions for their children’s upbringing, their education and their care, and so we are providing parents an opt-out. We’re providing them the ability to make the right decision for their child with regards to their child’s well-being. We are going to use all the authority that I have to consider all options to protect that right, and I think this is exactly what Virginians voted for in November and we delivered yesterday.”
Youngkin also added that he has worked to “increase transparency” from Virginia’s schools and has demanded that the school system stamp out any teaching of “racially divisive and other divisive concepts.”
Whereas many in the GOP would have changed tune once in office, Youngkin, like Trump, is sticking to his promises and delivering wins for his voters. Thanks to him, children will learn real lessons, not propaganda about how evil America is in the wild eyes of blue-haired progressives.
