Legendary Comedian Bob Saget Dies at 65

Legendary comedian and actor Bob Saget was found dead in his Ritz-Carlton hotel room on January 9th, 2021, at approximately four o’clock that afternoon. The sixty-five-year-old had just tweeted in the very early morning hours shortly after a performance in Jacksonville Florida with Tim Wilkins about how “addicted” to standup comedy he was, as he’d just performed the night before to a live audience.

The comedian even plugged his website for fans to check out upcoming shows and dates for 2022.

There is no doubt that the comedian had no doubts about being around to continue to perform as made clear by the tweet that was time stamped at 1:42 AM eastern time shortly after his performance on January 8th.

The man was most known for as the host of 193 episodes of America’s Funniest Home Videos or as Danny Tanner, the dad on Full House. His acting credits were considerable, though his friendly, goofy “dad” routine was what he was best known for. So much so that audiences were often shocked to discover that as a standup comedian he was a lot more risqué and foul-mouthed in his humor.

Other notable works included Half-Baked and the voice of a much older, more mature Ted Mosby who narrated the character’s dating life in How I Met Your Mother. He also made sure to make an appearance on the shows or podcasts of several friends throughout his career and reprised the role of Danny Tanner for Candace Cameron-Bure’s Fuller House, a sequel to Full House.

The family of Bob Saget released a statement a few hours after the announcement according to Fox News.

“We are devastated to confirm that our beloved Bob passed away today,” the Saget family said in their statement. “He was everything to us and we want you to know how much he loved his fans, performing live and bringing people from all walks of life together with laughter.”

“Though we ask for privacy at this time, we invite you to join us in remembering the love and laughter that Bob brought to the world.”

The actor leaves behind his wife, Kelly Rizzo. The two wed in 2018 at a ceremony in Santa Monica, California. He also is survived by three adult daughters and their mother, his ex-wife, Sherri Kramer.

Several friends of the comedian took to Twitter to wish the family condolences or express their shock and grief of Saget’s unexpected loss.

The first of former castmates to make a tweet was John Stamos.

David Coulier also expressed his grief…

And Candace Cameron-Bure…

Andrea Barber who played Kimmie Gibler on Full House simply posted a photo of her teenaged character hugging Saget’s character, Danny Tanner.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen put a combined statement as well.

Raising Dad co-star Kat Dennings tweeted as well.

Due to some drama, one reaction was far more angry on how the comedian’s known as “America’s Dad” had his death announced. TMZ was the first to break the news of the 65-year old’s death and in that desperate bid to be the first to report the news, they angered another legendary comedian, Jon Lovitz.

Many people on the internet have stated that TMZ waited until the statement was official by Orange County Police, however, that was only added as an update. If you look at the time stamps, TMZ was absolutely the first to tell the world that Bob Saget had died and did so before the police made their own statements, indicating that they may not have waited for family notification to be made.

If you take a look at TMZ’s site you can see they added the update about police telling them well after they’d originally posted the alert.

The original article stated that they had just learned, whereas their “updates” claims the police told them at 5:09 pm.

Below is a look back at Saget’s career.
