Navy Commander Fired for Not Getting the Jab

Well, the military declined to grant any religious exemptions for the Covid-19 vaccine mandate requirement, and now it appears that the purges of the unvaxxed have begun.

According to the Military Times, Cmdr. Lucian Kins, second in command of the USS Winston Churchill, an Arleigh-Burke class guided-missile destroyer, was relieved of duty by his superior officer, Capt. Ken Anderson, commander of Naval Surface Squadron 14, for not getting the Covid jab and refusing to take a test for the virus. That report said:

Navy spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Jason Fischer declined to give the precise reason why Kins was relieved of command, citing privacy concerns. Fischer, who is spokesman for the Naval Surface Force Atlantic, said the reason for the firing was that Anderson lost confidence in Kins’ ability to perform his duties after he failed to obey a lawful order.

Other officials, however, said it was because Kins refused the order to get the vaccine, and refused testing to ensure he did not have the virus.

And while Cmdr. Kins is one of the first, it’s highly likely that he won’t be the last. The active-duty military stands to lose about 50,000 servicemembers if it follows through on its threats to relieve any soldier, sailor, airman, or Marine that doesn’t get the jab. The Navy alone stands to lose about 20,000 sailors.

Though many servicemembers have pushed back against the vaccine mandate, citing both religious concerns and safety concerns, it’s unlikely the military will listen. The senior brass and civilian administrators have all professed a willingness to follow through on their threats to get rid of those that don’t get the jab and have shown no indication of changing their minds.

So, America’s already overstretched and undermanned military could lose tens of thousands of much-needed personnel at a time when tensions with Russia, China, and Iran are rapidly escalating. Thanks, Brandon!
