During the annual Valdai Discussion Club event, held in Sochi, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a blistering attack on the woke West, describing its attempts to push transgenderism on children as “monstrous.” ZeroHedge reports that he went after a variety of other topics too, giving a wide-ranging speech in which he levelled repeated blows against “emerging ‘norms’ on gender discussions, race relations, as well as ‘cancel culture.‘”
The RT translation of the event highlights a number of Putin’s controversial and interesting comments.
Referring to Afghan gold reserves and bank assets frozen by the US, he declared that “The first thing they should have done, in my opinion, is to unfreeze Afghan assets and enable Afghanistan to solve social and economic problems of primary importance.”
On cancel culture, he said that “The fight against racism is a necessary and noble cause, but in the modern ‘cancel culture’, it turns into reverse discrimination, reverse racism. We see with bemusement the process unfolding in countries that have grown accustomed to viewing themselves as flagships of progress.”
Warning about what he perceives to be the failures of the current capitalist order, he said that “Everyone says that the existing model of capitalism, which is now the basis of the social order in the vast majority of countries, has run out of steam. There is no longer any way out of the tangle of more and more confusing contradictions.”
When referring to Germany’s recent censorship of Russian media, Putin said “Of course, they infringe on freedom of speech – this is bad.”
But by far his most vigorous remarks were reserved for transgenderism, about which he had this to say, as RT reports:
“Those who risk saying that men and women still exist, and that this is a biological fact, are virtually ostracized” in the West, Putin said, calling the situation “a total phantasmagoria.”
“This is not to mention things that are simply monstrous,” he added, “like when children are taught from an early age that a boy can easily become a girl and vice versa. In fact, they are indoctrinating them into the alleged choices that are supposedly available to everyone – removing parents from the equation and forcing the child to make decisions that can ruin their lives.”
This is borderline crime against humanity – all under the guise of ‘progress’
He added that the situation reminds him of the ‘newspeak’ invented by the “Soviet culture-warriors” in the 1920s, in hopes of redefining people’s values and creating a new sense of consciousness.
Putin’s remarks come as a number of Eastern European countries have begun to push against the “woke” values of Western Europe and America.
As ZeroHedge reports, “Russia, Hungary, Poland and some other east European and Balkan countries have of late further accused West-backed NGOs of seeking to subvert traditional morality in their countries.”
Hungary’s Viktor Orban has proven himself a particularly virulent opponent of the woke values lambasted by Putin. He has passed laws that prevent George Soros-backed groups from operating in his nation, has promoted laws that prevent gays from being featured in educational materials or TV shows for children, and has attempted to revive Christianity in Hungary. Meanwhile, a third of Poland’s towns and villages have declared themselves “LGBT free zones.” Russia has passed Constitutional Amendments that ZeroHedge reports “outlawed same-sex marriage and [make] it illegal to allow self-identifying trans people to adopt.”
